The Austrian Dzogchen Community is part of the International Dzogchen
Community which was founded by the Tibetan Buddhist Dzogchen Master
Choegyal Namkhai Norbu in 1976. The main European Dzogchen
Centre is Merigar, which is locatrd in Toscany/ Italy.
The Dzogchen Community
is a non-bureaucratic organisation and is based on the development
of systems of communication which respect the various autonomous
local conditions. For Choegyal Namkhai Norbu the various Gars (literally
meaning dwelling) make up one great mandala or a network that connects
the different geographical areas of the world and to which practitioners
can refer as places of study or practice and meditation. There are Gars in various places
around the world:
The Dzogchen Community also carries out a number
of important projects through more specialiced organisations. One
such is A.S.I.A., a non governmental development organisation
which is carrying out welfare & building projects in Eastern
Tibet.
The Mirror
is a bimonthly newsletter which publicishes what is going on in
the community around the world and contains articles, transcripts,
reviews and news of interest to Dzogchen practitioners. It also
gives details of practices for special days and details of Chögyal
Namkhai Norbu´s programm including future teaching retreats.
Shang-Shung
Institute Austria is also connected with the Dzogchen Community.
It is concerned with the preservation & development of the Tibetan
Culture. Shang-Shung Edition
Austria produces texts and other publications to support
practitioners.
